Scrimshaw

Liz LaValley has been a scrimshander (inscribing scenes and symbols into bone with a sharpened tool, making them visible with ink) for over 40 years, selling and lecturing on her art and the traditions of the craft at museums, workshops and science fiction and fantasy conventions.  At present, she is doing scholarly research in the Elder Futhark (Viking runes) and their meanings, inscribing the runes onto deer antler tips, combining the two traditions of the New England art form and her Swedish heritage.  Liz has been a member of the gallery since 2000, joining at the Millennium.
