Dan Cooney is a project oriented visual communicator who enjoys all stages of the creative design process. He works with a variety of media and materials.
“Primarily, a painter of pictures, I tend to work in series while focusing on a particular area of content or form. My current focus is called “Home Town Series.” The work is a collection of painterly observations and reflections on when, where, and how, “we the people,” live our lives. The technique or style of this series can be described as, “expressive representationalism.”

I graduated from high school and moved to New Bedford in 1977, I then attended The Swain School of Design and received my BFA in Sculpture. I was a founding member of the “Second St. Art Exchange” (1983-87)located in the building behind Freestone’s . I was also a founding member and first president of Gallery X (August 1990) where I remain a member. I was also first president and founding member of O.R.P.H. Inc. (since 2004) A non profit organization with plans to reopen and restore the historic “Orpheum Theatre” in New Bedford’s south end.
I continue to actively show my work at Gallery X along with many other venues, I am most influenced by early American folk art; weathervanes, whirligigs, etc. Although I try merge them with my own influences.
I have been involved with historic restoration since 1977. Projects I have worked on include restoration and painting of the First Unitarian Church’s exterior and steeple, Trinity Methodist Church and steeple, Gallery X church and steeple, the painting and plaster work on the interior of Tryworks, The Seth Russell House, The Abijah Hathaway, Station One in Plymouth, the 1718 Henry Howland house in Dartmouth. among many others.
I also worked on classic yacht restoration with several businesses in the 1980s, specializing in finish carpentry, painting, and varnishing etc.
I am proud to say that I have collaborated and worked with many of the non profits in New Bedford at Gallery X over the years, I have worked on murals, clean ups, concerts, exhibitions, etc. and look forward to the bright future coming soon to New Bedford and want to be a part of it.

Metalwork  •  Stone Sculpture

Timothy Michael Hetland is a 3rd generation Norwegian descending from Kragerø, Norway. Through his metal artworks he defines the fine balance and beauty of metal, wood, crystal and stone to create everlasting interior and exterior sculptures.
Our one of a kind sculptures and photographs boast both beauty and the distressed look and are unlike anything else you will find in the art world.
Our solid built sculptures start from a simple moment in time and after many hours of labor brought to life.
The raw metal materials and ocean washed stone that are used are made to last for centuries and are high grade metals and alloys such as aircraft Aluminum, Stainless, Copper and Bronze.
The beautiful framed and matted photos of the sculptures are perfectly and meticulously done by Karen Lea Hetland, the artist’s wife of 20 years, whom together with much love create beautiful timeless objects and images for all to enjoy and cherish.
Thus the Skuteundfish way III.

Even as a young girl, I’ve always had a love for horror and heavy metal. As soon as I started drawing it would be scenes from these movies or section of lyrics that I liked. Years later this is now what I fill my days with, but now creating original works of art. When creating any piece most times than not I can convey a sense of shock or uneasiness. As well I do my best to start any art as if they were album covers, band poster and shirts. Whether the work is a painting on canvas, ink on paper, or a printed digital piece it all depends on the amount of detail and texture the art is meant to have.
